Sick Again...

My friend wrote a song called "Sick Again" and I'm completely sure he wasn't thinking of me throwing up in a Mexican bathroom when he wrote it... But, it was all I could think about during my recent illness "event"... More on that un poco mas tarde (a little later)...

Friday was a really interesting day... All the teams left really early, so when I woke up everyone was gone! We had a staff meeting and talked about the upcoming week, complete with master spreadsheets and the highest level of detail in Central/Latin America... Then we all split up and started working on projects... Some people cleaned and got ready for the new teams, I worked on house 3... I've got to finish these doors, I need to do something else! But I've developed a pretty good system, so I've become the on-call guy for doors...

Rob and Kristine were sweating it out with me in House 3... They were working on installing the overhead lights in the closets and bathrooms... They were awesome! Kristine bent over laughing when I told her that John would probably have them working on wiring the lights...
But within the hour she was on a ladder with wirenuts in hand... That's the process here: Someone asks you to do something, You think to yourself that there's no way in the world you can do that thing, and then 15 minutes later you are an expert at it...

We took a break for lunch and went to Las Alitas (wings, in English)... Alitas is a great Wings joint - air conditioning, free refills and ESPN (don't know what the latinamerican ESPN channel is called - I think it should be called ESPNish)... Lunch was so, so good... Todd took Rob and I and the guy interns... Here's a picture of August, Andrew, Andrew, Rob, Todd and Brian... Missing from the picture are Cody, Kurt, and me... After Alitas we took the interns home and Todd took Rob and I to Wal-Mart... (in spanish: Wal-Mart)...

When we got back to LDM...
some of the staff kids had found a new "pet"... I'm not sure what they named this cute little moth, but whatever its name was it didn't make it through the afternoon... How amazing that the little moth got to spend its last few hours on earth with these cute little girls!

Todd invited the Summer Staff over to his house for dinner... He made dinner for us just to say thanks for being here this summer... He made Arracherra (marinated grilled steak) tacos...

The Arracherra was incredible! It was great to spend the evening with these wonderful servants...

Here is a picture of Diane and Beth... Diane is the mother of one of the staff members and has come down for the summer... Jen went to college with Beth, and she's here for a few more weeks...

The other picture is of Dain and Beth... Dain is the head honcho of the Back2Back offices in the states... He's a great guy that comes down frequently to help out...

After I left Todd's house I got sick... I don't think it had anything to do with anything I ate or drank, I think I'm just getting run down and dehydrated... I'm better now, but I required a nap Saturday afternoon...

Saturday

Saturday (before the nap) I worked to install the door hardware in the new bathrooms by the pool and the palapa... I had just finished when John came up and asked how things were going... I said that I thought they were working out pretty well and shut the door to test it... I then realized that I left the keys in the bathroom behind the locked door! So we had to break in through the window on the side of the building... I told John I would arm-wrestle him to see who had to shimmy through the window, but I think he was afraid to lose so he headed straight for the ladder... It worked, we popped off the screen and I told him to "Dukes of Hazzard" through the opening... Great Job, John!

Saturday (after the nap) we had a group from one of the group homes (Manantial de Amor) come for a pool party and cookout... We grilled hot dogs and served nachos... They were so good!

Here is Brittany (one of the interns) dishing out cheese...

And here is a picture of Cesar (who lives in the Joshua House) eating nachos after serving all the kids... Cesar is going with me to pick Jen up from the airport!! I'm so excited... It feels like forever since I've seen her... I can't wait to post pictures of our Anniversary Surpise!
